Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain the sterile field; pass instruments and sutures to the physician and assist as directed during surgical procedures.
- Prepare the Operating Room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the type of case, utilizing physician preference cards as a baseline.
- Prepare patient skin for surgery, position patients according to procedure type, and transport patients to and from the Operating Room suite.
- Monitor and control the surgical environment including traffic control, dress code compliance, and adherence to OR sanitation policies and aseptic technique.
- Identify, handle, and care for biological specimens in accordance with facility standards.
- Demonstrate clinical expertise in the use and care of surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment while adhering to Universal Barrier Precautions.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or accredited LVN/LPN program required.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential or active LVN/LPN license required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
- Minimum of 1 year of surgical technologist experience required.
- Ability and willingness to float to other locations as needed.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- 2 or more years of surgical technologist experience preferred.
- Proficiency scrubbing in 3 or more specialty areas such as Transplants, Open Heart, Urology, Neurology, Titanium Rib, or Robotics highly preferred.
- Experience with EPIC EMR preferred.
