Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to antepartum and intrapartum patients in a Labor and Delivery unit maintaining a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1, with potential for 1:2 or 1:3 depending on patient acuity per AWHONN staffing standards
• Perform and assist with clinical procedures including sterile vaginal exams, triage of obstetrical patients, external and internal fetal monitoring, IUPC placement and calibration, spiral electrode placement, and recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Administer medications and therapies including Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin (oxytocin), antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, insulin drips, prostaglandins, terbutaline, and blood and blood products
• Assist with vaginal deliveries, high-risk deliveries, C-section circulation and recovery, forceps/vacuum extraction, neonatal resuscitation, and hemorrhage/shock management
• Manage patient care including epidural and general anesthesia support, pain assessment, Foley catheter insertion, fundus/lochia/perineum care, wound assessment, and breastfeeding/lactation support
• Float to the postpartum unit as needed to provide couplet care or care for postpartum patients only; on-call obligation of 2 shifts per 6-week schedule period

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license; must hold both Kansas and Missouri licensure or a compact license at time of submission — unwillingness to obtain will result in disqualification
• Required certifications: BLS, Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
• Minimum of 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience; first-time travelers are not accepted
• Proficiency with a broad range of L&D skills including antepartum care, high-risk obstetrical conditions (pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, HELLP Syndrome, preterm labor, PROM, multiple gestation, malpresentations, VBAC management), and use of external fetal monitoring equipment
• Weekend availability required: 4–5 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period, plus a minimum of 2 Sunday night shifts per 6-week schedule; weekends for night shift are defined as Friday and Saturday nights
• Must live at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in an LDRP setting is strongly preferred given the unit's combined Labor, Delivery, and Postpartum physical space; candidates with L&D or LDR experience only will also be considered
• Familiarity with PeriWatch fetal monitoring application and Philips Avalon fetal monitors
• Experience in facilities with birth volumes of 100–300 births per month
• Experience with postpartum and post-operative GYN patient care
