School Registered Nurse
Primary Purpose: The primary purpose of a school’s Registered Nurse (RN) is to promote and protect the health and well-being of students, enabling them to fully participate in learning by addressing medical needs, managing chronic conditions, preventing the spread of illness, and responding to health emergencies during the school day.
Position Details:
- Location: Timber Creek High School - Orlando, FL
- Pay: Starting at $41
- Hours: 9hr Days - Expect 8hrs, but prepare for the extra hour in case of transportation delays.
- Schedule: Arrival to student's home is at 6:45a. Pick-Up is 6:55a. Drop-Off is 2:40p.
Qualifications:
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of Florida.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience in pediatric or school nursing is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and make sound clinical judgments.?
Skills & Experience:
- Strong clinical skills in pediatric care, medication administration, and emergency response
- Effective communication, organization, and critical thinking
- Experience with chronic condition management (e.g., asthma, diabetes)
- Knowledge of HIPAA/FERPA, immunization compliance, and public health practices
- Preferred: School or pediatric nursing experience, EHR familiarity, IHP/EAP development
Responsibilities:
- Direct Care: Provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff.
- ?????Health Monitoring: Administer prescribed medications and treatments as per physician orders.
- Chronic Condition Management: Monitor and manage chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and seizures.
- Health Education: Educate students and staff on health, hygiene, and disease prevention.
- Screenings: Conduct mandated health screenings, including vision, hearing, and scoliosis.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for students.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with state and local school health requirements, including immunizations and physicals.
- Collaboration: Work with school personnel, parents, and healthcare providers to support student health
Work Environment:
- School Registered Nurses typically work in a school health clinic or nurse’s office within elementary, middle, or high schools.
- The environment is fast-paced and student-centered, requiring flexibility to respond to both scheduled care (like medication administration or chronic condition management) and unexpected health issues or emergencies.
- They work closely with students, school staff, and families in a collaborative setting and may move between classrooms or multiple school sites depending on district needs.
- The role often follows a standard school-day schedule, with summers and school holidays off.
