Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. This role involves working with students who have diverse learning needs, providing them with tailored educational experiences that promote their academic and social development. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of childhood development and early intervention strategies, ensuring that each student receives the support necessary to thrive in a learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design curriculum and prepare lesson plans tailored to individual student needs and IEPs, considering physical, emotional, and developmental levels.
- Develop, review, and implement IEPs in collaboration with parents, administrators, support staff, and specialists.
- Deliver academic and social skills instruction using behavior?based techniques such as positive reinforcement and PBIS frameworks.
- Provide direct instruction in self?contained classrooms or co?teach in inclusion/general education classrooms for mild/moderate disabilities.
- Monitor and assess student progress through tests, progress monitoring, FABs (Functional Assessment of Behavior), and data analysis.
- Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, behavior, and progress, and prepare reports for parents and administrators.
- Participate in IEP meetings, professional development sessions, and faculty meetings.
- Manage classroom environment and supplies to ensure a safe, organized, and positive learning space.
- Conduct behavior interventions and, when necessary and allowed, apply school?board?approved physical restraint procedures.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned by school administrators.
Required / Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Special Education or a related field. Preferred: Master’s degree for stipend eligibility.
- Certification: Valid Florida teaching certificate in Exceptional Student Education (K–12) or currently in-progress certification. Must pass the ESE K?12 Subject Area Exam if relevant.
- Experience: Prior work with students with disabilities (e.g., autism, ADHD, emotional behavioral disorders), knowledge of IEPs, differentiation, and evidence-based teaching strategies.
- Skills: Excellent communication, collaboration, data?driven instruction, behavior management, and classroom organization.
