Registered Nurse - IMC/PCU/Stepdown

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team in a High Acuity PCU/Stepdown unit. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care to individuals with complex medical conditions. This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse to gain experience in oncology, working with a diverse patient population.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct patient care to individuals with various medical conditions, including solid tumors, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans • Administer medications, including chemotherapy, and monitor patient responses • Perform various medical procedures, such as starting IVs, accessing ports, and managing central lines • Conduct routine assessments and report changes in patient condition to the healthcare team • Participate in rapid response teams and use critical thinking skills to respond to emergencies • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records • Educate patients and families on disease management, treatment options, and self-care techniques

Requirements:

• 2 years of oncology experience preferred, but not required • Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), ACLS, and NIH • High acuity PCU patient experience required • Ability to float within units of equivalent or lower level of acuity • Previous travel experience preferred

• Interpretation of dysrhythmias • Use of rapid response teams • Feeding tube care and management • Accessing Ports • Blood Product Administration • Central line care/management • Peripheral Line Care/Management • PICC line management • Starting IVs • Heparin Protocols • Manage Cardia drips (no titration) • PCA • Titrate Cardiac drips • Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac) • External CPAP/BIPAP • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) • Interpretation of ABGs • Nasal Cannula • Tracheostomy Management

Training and Orientation:

• First week: Monday to Friday dayshift orientation • Second week: 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor

Work Environment:

• Medical Oncology with progressive care beds/pediatric patients • High acuity of PCU and small amount of med surg • City, State

Schedule:

• No set schedule, no set weekends, no block schedule • Facility determines the complete schedule, with the possibility of working every weekend • Maximum 7 straight days off • 14-week contract required if taking 7 days off
