Key Responsibilities
- Provide respiratory care, including initiation and management of life support systems such as ventilators, arterial punctures, and adjustments to maintain optimal blood gas levels, in accordance with physician orders.
- Assist in cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts, including airway management, manual ventilation, arterial blood gas sampling, and transfer ventilated patients to intensive care if needed.
- Assess and evaluate patients with respiratory disorders, recommending appropriate treatment modalities, medications, and therapy plans in collaboration with physicians.
- Administer prescribed treatments such as aerosol therapy, chest physiotherapy, and medication delivery, while monitoring patient responses and adjusting as necessary.
- Operate pulmonary function testing and pulse oximetry equipment, obtaining diagnostic data to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Educate patients and families on respiratory therapies, treatment procedures, and disease management strategies.
- Maintain strict adherence to safety, infection control policies, and equipment sterilization protocols, ensuring a clean and safe environment.
- Participate in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs, providing patient education on disease management and oxygen conservation techniques.
- Support additional duties such as EEG electrode placement, sleep studies, equipment maintenance, and staff training, as required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Hawaii Respiratory Therapist license.
- Certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRTT) recognized by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
- Ability to perform complex respiratory procedures, including ventilator management and arterial blood sampling.
- Strong patient assessment skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team members.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Previous experience working in a hospital respiratory therapy unit.
- Experience with pediatric and neonatal respiratory care.
- Familiarity with sleep studies, electroencephalogram setup, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound clinical judgment.
