Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the operating room during surgical procedures across various specialties, including General Surgery, ENT, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic, Gynecology, Trauma, Urology, and Plastic Surgery.
- Prepare and maintain surgical equipment and supplies, ensuring aseptic techniques and safety protocols are followed.
- Float within scope of practice to adapt to different surgical cases and department needs.
- Support the surgical team during procedures such as sterilization, passing instruments, and specimen handling.
- Adhere to hospital policies on radiation safety, sharps safety, and infection control.
- Participate in on-call duties and weekend rotations as required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a surgical tech in a hospital setting.
- BLS certification required; CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) preferred.
- Ability to assist with a wide range of surgical procedures, including ENT, general, trauma, neurosurgery, orthopedic, gynecology, urology, and plastics.
- Experience with endoscopic procedures (Colonoscopy, EGD, PEG tubes) and specialized surgical skills such as craniotomy, trauma management, and microvascular free flaps.
- Must have current license or be eligible to practice in Illinois (discuss RTO with manager).
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Previous experience in a Level I trauma center or teaching hospital.
- Familiarity with Cerner charting system.
- Knowledge of equipment such as drills, electrosurgical units, fiber optic sources, and various surgical instruments.
- Experience in managing complex trauma, ENT, neurosurgery, plastics, or urology cases preferred.
