Key Responsibilities

• Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination by cutting, freezing, and staining according to established protocols.
• Assist pathologists with gross examinations, autopsies, and specimen evaluations.
• Maintain laboratory solutions, reagents, and equipment, ensuring quality and safety standards are upheld.
• Accurately log and track tissue specimens, ensuring proper identification and documentation.
• Support continuous quality improvement initiatives within the department.
• Instruct and mentor new staff or students in histology techniques.

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in a science-related field; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• Successful completion of an NAACLS-accredited Histotechnology program within one year of employment.
• Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification within one year.
• Knowledge of histology procedures, safety protocols, and laboratory standards.
• Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with team members and medical staff.
• Analytical skills to determine appropriate specimen preparation methods.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with routine histology, embedding, sectioning, and special staining techniques.
• Familiarity with histochemical reagents and equipment maintenance.
• Ability to perform a variety of histology procedures independently.
