Key Responsibilities
- Administer safe and competent respiratory care as ordered, including specialty areas such as Emergency, Neonatal, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Critical Care.
- Monitor and manage mechanical ventilation, adjust settings based on patient assessments, and interpret flow-volume and pressure-volume curves.
- Perform airway management procedures, including bag/mask ventilation, suctioning, and assisting with intubation.
- Conduct arterial blood gas draws and analyze blood work to inform treatment plans.
- Assess respiratory status of adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients, making therapeutic recommendations and performing necessary interventions.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all respiratory procedures and patient interactions, ensuring compliance with hospital policies.
- Assist in training and orienting new staff, students, and trainees, providing guidance on equipment and procedures.
- Utilize and troubleshoot cardiopulmonary equipment, ensuring optimal functioning.
- Follow infection control protocols and safety procedures to protect patients and staff.
- Keep supervisor informed of workload and patient acuity changes, and participate in departmental meetings and quality improvement activities.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of a COARC-approved Respiratory Care Program.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential according to NBRC guidelines.
- Current BLS certification; NRP certification within 6 months (or upon hire).
- At least one year of clinical experience in respiratory care, including mechanical ventilation management.
- Ability to perform arterial blood gas draws and interpret blood work results.
- Knowledge of adult, pediatric, and neonatal respiratory therapy needs.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with pulmonary and cardiac diagnostics (e.g., EKG, Holter monitor, stress testing).
- Proficiency with ventilator management and troubleshooting.
- Prior experience in emergency or critical care settings.
