Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients on general medical and surgical units, managing a diverse patient population with conditions such as COPD, Diabetes, CHF, renal failure, GI issues, infections, neurological disorders, and mental health issues.
  • Perform patient assessments, develop and update care plans, and communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Utilize electronic health records, manage IV therapy, wound care devices, feeding tubes, chest tubes, and monitor medication drips including heparin and insulin.
  • Operate medical equipment such as Pyxis machines, IV pumps, telemetry monitors, and wound vacs.
  • Assist with procedures including colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1.5 years of experience in Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care hospital settings.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in facilities with 600+ beds.
  • Valid RN license in Indiana or a compact license.
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS required.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Epic electronic health records.

Preferred Experience / Skills:

  • Experience with intensive care procedures and advanced nursing equipment.
  • Ability to float to other medical units as needed.
  • Familiarity with wound care, IV management, and telemetry monitoring.

Additional Details:

  • Shift: 12-hour days, with a requirement of 3 weekend shifts every four weeks.
  • Patient ratios typically 1:5-6.
  • Float to other medical units as needed, with comprehensive orientation including hospital and nursing-specific training, Epic system classes, and unit-specific protocols.
  • Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs.
