Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate patients’ respiratory and cardiopulmonary status through collection and analysis of clinical data.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient assessments and physician orders.
  • Administer respiratory treatments, oxygen therapy, and medications, ensuring correct dosage and understanding potential side effects.
  • Perform diagnostic tests such as ABGs, pulse oximetry, pulmonary function tests, and EKGs, ensuring accuracy and adherence to standards.
  • Set up, operate, and assess mechanical ventilators, including BIPAP and CPAP units.
  • Educate patients and their families on condition management, treatment plans, and the proper use of equipment and medications.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate patient care and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Document care activities, patient responses, and any adverse events accurately in compliance with hospital policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including VAP bundle protocols, and report deviations as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of a CoARC-approved Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (R.R.T.) or eligible by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist by the State of Massachusetts.
  • ACLS, NRP, and PALS certifications obtained or completed within six months of hire.
  • Prior clinical experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and data entry.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Experience with pulmonary function testing and fiberoptic bronchoscopy.
  • Knowledge of ventilator management and critical care procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds.
