Special Education Teacher

Primary Purpose: A Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing individualized instruction to students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. The teacher will work closely with students, parents, and staff to create and implement tailored educational plans that help students achieve their academic, social, and emotional goals. The role requires expertise in creating a supportive and inclusive environment that meets the needs of students with diverse learning challenges.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Valid GA teaching certification in Special Education and Adaptive Certification required.
  • Minimum three years previous special education teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience working with students with a range of disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, autism, developmental delays, etc.)

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in K-2 and/or inclusive of culturally-relevant project-based learning.
  • Experience working with students with Autism and moderate intellectual disabilities.
  • Strong classroom management and behavioral support skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach K-2nd grade students with moderate intellectual disabilities and Autism in a self-contained classroom setting.
  • Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to meet student ability levels.
  • Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
  •  Manage classroom behavior and support students with potty training and behavioral challenges.

Work Environment:

  • Classroom and school environment, which may include both individual and group instruction.
  • May involve working with students in various settings (classroom, therapy rooms, or outdoor spaces).
  • Frequent interaction with parents, staff, and administrators.
