Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and maintenance of sterile supplies and equipment for surgical procedures.
• Establish and maintain a sterile field, including gowning, gloving, and surgical scrubbing.
• Help with patient skin preparation and draping, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to facilitate efficient procedures and minimize patient stress.
• Operate sterilizers safely, document sterilization processes, and ensure proper sterilization of instruments.
• Perform instrument, sponge, and sharps counts accurately and efficiently.
• Support the surgical team during procedures by handling supplies, instruments, and medications as directed.
• Maintain knowledge of procedure-specific equipment and participate in ongoing education to stay current with surgical practices.
• Follow infection control policies and all safety protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.

Required Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent military training.
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association, with renewal every two years.
• Minimum of three years’ operating room experience preferred.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with Cesarean sections, orthopedics, general, and vascular surgeries preferred.
• Knowledge of various sterilization methods and maintenance of surgical instruments.
• Ability to work effectively with physicians, team members, and students under stress.
• Strong organizational skills and dexterity to handle delicate surgical instruments and supplies.
