Schedule / Job Type
- Full-time, night shifts, 3x12s, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, every other weekend, no call, holiday coverage with one holiday and one evening shift during the holiday period
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized orthopedic nursing care for pre-operative and post-operative patients, including elective and trauma cases
- Utilize orthopedic equipment such as CPM machines, bone foam, knee immobilizers, and other orthopedic devices
- Utilize EPIC electronic health records to document patient care and progress
- Collaborate with Rapid Response Teams and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety
- Maintain safe patient handling practices using appropriate equipment and techniques
- Administer medications and monitor patient responses consistent with nursing standards
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of orthopedic nursing experience; no first-time travelers
- Valid BLS certification; ACLS preferred
- Knowledge of orthopedic procedures including total hip, knee, and shoulder replacements and repairs
- Experience with orthopedic trauma care
- Ability to work 3 consecutive nights (3x12s) and handle a patient load of approximately 6 patients, potentially extending to 7
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience with orthopedic and trauma nursing, including pre-op and post-op care
- Familiarity with orthopedic equipment like CPM and immobilizers
- Experience with rapid response teams and emergency protocols
