Key Responsibilities

  • Provide acute inpatient care on the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) for adult patients with complex cardiac and medical conditions.
  • Float to appropriate units and assist with patient monitoring, medication administration, and invasive procedures such as starting IVs and managing drips (insulin, cardiac, vasopressors).
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure high-quality patient care, including responding to emergencies and supporting post-cardiac cath patients.
  • Follow unit-specific protocols for patient care, monitoring, and documentation using Epic EMR system.
  • Participate in bi-weekly orientations and ensure all employment history and credential documentation are complete.

Required Qualifications

  • Active NY nursing license or proof of application with applied date (processing time 6-8 weeks).
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required prior to start.
  • Minimum of 1 year of telemetry experience in an inpatient setting.
  • Experience with insulin drips, cardiac drips, starting IVs, and post-cardiac cath monitoring.
  • Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years is mandatory.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Prior travel or float nurse experience preferred.
  • Ability to work autonomously and adapt to unit needs, including working holidays if scheduled.
  • Reliable transportation, with vehicles equipped for winter conditions.

Additional Details

  • Travelers must work 2 out of 3 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s.
  • No block scheduling; schedule posted weekly.
  • All work history details must be provided, including facility type and bed counts.
  • Facility is a Level 2 trauma center with a 341-bed capacity.
  • Nurses will float to appropriate units, contributing to a resource float team.
  • Shift hours are typically 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM.
  • Dress code: navy or white scrubs, closed-toe non-skid shoes, minimal jewelry.
  • No public transportation access; reliable personal or rental vehicle required, equipped with seasonal tires during winter months.
  • Responds to adult patient population with diagnoses including ACS, post-PTCA/stent, heart failure, and other cardiac/medical conditions requiring close monitoring.
