Key Responsibilities

  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments, orthopedic sets, and equipment
  • Inspect, clean, and reprocess endoscopes manually and using automated endoscope reprocessors (AER)
  • Assemble, inspect, and wrap instrument trays for various surgical procedures
  • Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, VPro Max, and AER systems
  • Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes and equipment checks
  • Ensure proper functioning of sterilization equipment through routine checks and logs
  • Assemble surgical case carts with supplies, ensuring timely availability
  • Retrieve, stock, and rotate supplies following FIFO protocols
  • Follow all hospital, AAMI, AORN, OSHA, and facility-specific sterilization and safety standards
  • Assist surgical teams and outpatient clinics with sterilization needs to support efficient operative services
  • Adhere to infection control standards and stay updated on best practices and equipment servicing

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certification through CRCST or CBSPD
  • Minimum of 2 years recent experience in a sterile processing department in a hospital or surgical center
  • Hawaii State license (applicants not currently licensed must apply upon acceptance and obtain license prior to start)

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Prior experience working in general surgery, orthopedics, cardiothoracic, OB/GYN, urology, plastics, vascular, pediatric, or robotic-assisted endoscopic procedures
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to work under pressure
  • Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment

Additional Details

  • Shifts typically cover 6am–9pm, Monday through Friday, with on-call hours on weekends and holidays
  • Typical shift hours are 12 hours (e.g., 12:00 PM – 12:00 AM), with occasional coverage needed in the early morning hours or on weekends
  • Scrubs are provided; orientation on day shift for up to one week or at managerial discretion
