Key Responsibilities
- Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination by cutting, freezing, and staining according to established protocols.
 - Assist pathologists with gross examinations, autopsies, and specimen evaluations.
 - Maintain laboratory solutions, reagents, and equipment, ensuring quality and safety standards are upheld.
 - Accurately log and track tissue specimens, ensuring proper identification and documentation.
 - Support continuous quality improvement initiatives within the department.
 - Instruct and mentor new staff or students in histology techniques.
 
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in a science-related field; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
 - Successful completion of an NAACLS-accredited Histotechnology program within one year of employment.
 - Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification within one year.
 - Knowledge of histology procedures, safety protocols, and laboratory standards.
 - Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with team members and medical staff.
 - Analytical skills to determine appropriate specimen preparation methods.
 
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with routine histology, embedding, sectioning, and special staining techniques.
 - Familiarity with histochemical reagents and equipment maintenance.
 - Ability to perform a variety of histology procedures independently.
