Contract | Days | 4x10-Hour Shifts (6:15 AM – 4:45 PM) | Onsite
Key Responsibilities
- Perform first assistant duties across an average daily caseload of 8 surgical cases in an acute inpatient OR environment
- Assist with cardiac, general, thoracic, and vascular surgical procedures including coronary artery bypass grafts, valve replacements, AAA repair, carotid endarterectomy, and femoral popliteal bypass grafts
- Support endoscopic procedures including bronchoscopy, EGD, laparoscopic-assisted cases, and PEG tube placement or exchange
- Provide first assistant coverage for trauma cases including amputations and gunshot or stab wound interventions
- Participate in on-call rotation approximately 1–2 times per week and once every 3–4 weekends, with weekend call running from end of shift Friday through Monday morning
- Float within scope as needed to meet facility staffing requirements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3–4 years of OR First Assistant experience
- Active Illinois license in hand at time of submission (pending license accepted per job description)
- BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI cards not accepted)
- Experience in Acute Inpatient OR, CVOR, and Outpatient OR settings
- Proficiency with aseptic technique, isolation precautions, and laser safety
- Experience with case carts, drills, electrosurgical units, and fiber optic light sources and cords
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with cardiovascular procedures including mitral valve replacement and pericardial window
- Experience with vascular procedures including arteriovenous fistula repair and vein stripping
- Familiarity with Cerner electronic health records charting system
- Prior experience in a Level I trauma center or Magnet-designated facility
