School Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
Primary Purpose: 1:1 nursing support for student with complex medical and physical needs.
Position Details:
- Location: Jacksonville, FL
- Pay: Starting at $26 (LPN) or $33 (RN)
- Hours: 8a-3:30p M-F
Qualifications:
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) or License Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state of Florida.
- Current BLS Certification
- Background check clearance
- AHCA / Fingerprint clearance
- Ability to assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) including diapering, hygiene, and mobility (OT/PT/PARA may request nurse assistance).
- Previous experience in pediatric, school-based, or special education settings strongly preferred.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with school staff and family.
Skills & Experience:
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques, and procedures in providing nursing services
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology and common medications
- Working knowledge of clinic procedures, instruments, equipment, and the uses and effects of medications
- Knowledge of childhood illnesses
- Knowledge of First Aid and CPR
- Strong skills in the use of glucometer, nebulizer, catheters, IVAC feeding machines and equipment, suction machine, and related medical equipment
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong word processing, spreadsheet, and database software skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong time management skills
- Strong skills in establishing and maintaining information, record, document, and file systems
- Ability to administer medications and treatments adjusting to the student's condition
- Ability to initiate appropriate emergency measures
- Physical ability to lift, move and position students for procedures and transporting
- Ability to inventory and order supplies
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, teachers, other employees, parents, and the general public
Responsibilities:
- Performs routine and prescribed invasive and non-invasive procedures including, but not limited to; gastric tube feedings; breathing treatments; diabetic glucose monitoring; urinary catheterizations; and tracheostomy care and suctioning.
- Identifies and monitors student health status through needs assessments, screening procedures, examinations, observations, and analyses.
- Establishes and maintains appropriate medical records, logs, indices, and schedules on daily and school year diagnoses, care plans, procedures, treatments, monitoring, adverse reactions, and notifications.
- Provides basic first aid and attends to student health needs as indicated in the School Health Services Manual.
- Distributes/administers prescription and non-prescription medication to students in accordance with applicable laws and directives, following guidelines described in school health policy manual.
- Assists the student, school personnel, and parents in understanding and coping with a student's disability or condition.
- Designs intervention in conjunction with other health and education team members to prevent further disability.
- Facilitate Telehealth appointments for students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
