Join Our Team:
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team in a fast-paced Medical Surgical/Tele unit. As a valued member of our healthcare team, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population, including those with surgical oncology diagnoses.
Unit Overview:
Our Medical Surgical/Tele unit is a mixed acuity unit that cares for both PCU and Med Surg patients. We are a busy surgical floor with a focus on providing high-quality patient care. Our staffing ratios are 1:4, but can be 1:5 on weekends, depending on unit needs.
Schedule:
As a permanent staff member, you will not have set or blocked scheduling. However, if you accept a 12D/N rotating contract, you may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination of both, depending on the department's needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, but changes are not guaranteed and are based on staffing priorities at that time.
Scheduling Flexibility:
You will have the opportunity to self-schedule your requests, and our scheduling team will review them before balancing and posting the final schedule.
Onboarding:
Your first week of orientation will be Monday to Friday, day shift. The following week, you will participate in 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor.
Requirements:
- 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse
- Patient age group: Adults and Geriatrics
- Diagnoses: Surgical Oncology, Hepatobiliary, Colorectal, and Plastics
- Special procedures/unit details: Chemotherapy, Blood transfusions, IV Antibiotics, Oncologic emergencies, cytokine release syndrome, Insulin drips, Heparin drips, and heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls
Certifications:
- BLS certification is preferred
- ONS Chemo certification is required
- Computerized Charing and EPIC experience is an asset
