Required Qualifications:

• Associate Degree in Medical Technology • Phlebotomy skills for wide range of patient ages (preferred) • Typing skills and experience with computer systems (preferred) • Knowledge of medical terminology (preferred) • Registration in a recognized national certification (highly recommended)

Key Responsibilities:

• Collects, tests, and stores blood and blood products; administers transfusion products and maintains records of transfusions • Obtains blood specimens, collects other body fluids, and throat swabs for laboratory testing • Performs required procedures related to counting and identification of blood cells, coagulation studies, and quality control • Processes chemical tests on body fluids and exudates, tests urine and examines urine sediment for various types of cell bodies • Performs routine serological tests on body fluids and materials such as blood, exudates, scrapings, and spinal fluid to ascertain pathogenic qualities • Teaches MLT students and other employees testing techniques • Participates actively in continuing education and presents in-service programs • Performs quality control tests according to department procedure and testing schedule • Records results in the Hospital Information System (HIS) • Maintains compliance with laboratory and hospital policies and procedures, as well as laboratory safety procedures • Assists in training phlebotomy to healthcare students
