Key Responsibilities:
• Assist the pharmacist in providing timely, efficient, cost-effective, and appropriate pharmaceutical care to the patient • Refill patient medication bins through robot cart fill and manual picks; update carts by including new orders, removing discontinued medications, and transferring medications • Deliver and exchange 24-hour cartfill to nursing units at scheduled times • Reorder medications in short supply and restock the picking station and other areas of the pharmacy • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, check periodically for overstocked and outdated medications • Answer telephone and greet personnel coming to pharmacy in a courteous and friendly manner • Make rounds of nursing units for medication drop-off and pick up discontinued medications • Send prepared medications to nursing units via pneumatic tube system on a timely basis for STATs and missing doses if the medication can be tubed • Manage automated dispensing cabinet inventory, including accurate selection and loading of medications • Ensure that medications are stored properly and that only in date medications are stored • Remove discontinued medication • Fill floor stock orders and deliver to nursing units and restock floor stock area • Receive and check incoming supplier order(s) • Perform floor stock billing to ensure patients are billed accurately and timely • Repackaging/prepackaging to maintain PAR levels • Inspect medications at nursing units, including refrigerators and automated dispensing cabinets • Process and fill office practice orders and package for delivery • Update expiration dates and inventory levels of stock medication • Safely and effectively use automated devices including KitCheck, Medication Carousels, Automated Dispensing Cabinets, computers, scanners, printers, copiers, fax machines and other technology as required • Use appropriate PPE for handling chemotherapy medications and other hazardous agents • Prepare IV medications using aseptic techniques and in following processes in full compliance with USP 795, 797, and 800 federal regulations • Complete IV batch fills in a timely manner to ensure efficient and cost-effective care for our patients • Assist batching activities in order to provide sufficient quantities of IV products to sustain daily activities of the health system • Maintain consistency of the environment within the cleanroom area • Order, receive, and restock IV supplies to meet daily demands of the IV lab area • Following appropriate procedures for gowning and garbing • Maintain proper personal hygiene for work in the cleanroom environment as outlined in departmental policy • Use appropriate PPE and closed system transfer devices (as needed) for the preparation of chemotherapy and other hazardous medications • Successfully complete all competencies and maintain aseptic technique and IV skillsets as required by departmental policy in accordance with state and federal regulation
Required Qualifications:
• MD license in hand
Preferred Experience / Skills:
• Previous experience in a pharmacy setting • Knowledge of automated dispensing cabinets and other pharmacy technology • Experience with IV admixture services and aseptic technique • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
