Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Fort Wayne, IN
Schedule / Job Type: Days, Full-time, 12-hour shifts, including 3 weekend shifts in 4 weeks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing care for patients in general medical and surgical units, managing a diverse patient population with conditions such as COPD, Diabetes, CHF, renal disease, GI issues, infections, neurological and mental health disorders.
  • Perform assessments, care planning, and patient education while utilizing electronic health records (EHR) and various medical equipment.
  • Administer medications, manage IV therapies, and operate equipment such as infusion pumps, wound vacs, chest tubes, and telemetry monitors.
  • Assist with procedures including colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, biopsies, minor surgeries, and other diagnostic or therapeutic interventions.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and ensure optimal outcomes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1.5 years of experience in Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care settings.
  • At least 1 year of nursing experience at a facility with 600+ beds.
  • Current state of Indiana RN license or valid compact license.
  • BLS certification is required; ACLS preferred.
  • Proficiency with EHR systems, infusion pumps, wound care, and patient monitoring.

Preferred Experience / Skills:

  • Experience floating within medical-surgical units and working in busy, high-acuity environments.
  • Familiarity with Epic electronic health records and hospital equipment such as Pyxis, Hospira IV pumps, and SCDs.
  • Ability to manage multiple patients with varying care needs effectively.
