Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in general medical and surgical units, including those with chronic illnesses, GI issues, infections, neurological conditions, and mental health disorders.
  • Assist with procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Perform assessments, develop care plans, and communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Utilize hospital equipment and electronic health records (EHR) including IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding tubes, chest tubes, and infusion management.
  • Manage IV therapies, medication administration, and monitor patient status using telemetry and other monitoring tools.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital protocols, safety standards, and documentation requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1.5 years of experience in Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care settings.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a facility with 600+ beds.
  • Current Indiana or compact RN license.
  • Certifications including BLS, ACLS (preferred).
  • Knowledge of various nursing procedures, equipment, and EHR systems (Epic preferred).

Preferred Experience / Skills:

  • Experience floating to medical-surgical units within large hospital settings.
  • Familiarity with managing patients with complex chronic and acute conditions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, diverse environment with a patient ratio of 1:5-6.

  • Days shifts, 12-hour rotations.
  • Three weekend shifts every four weeks.
  • Floating to other general medical units as needed.

Additional Details:

  • Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs.
  • Supplemental staff will undergo Jump Start orientation, including hospital overview, nursing orientation, and Epic training.
  • May be required to float to other medical units within the hospital.
