Job Title: Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Location: Fort Wayne, IN

Schedule / Job Type: Full-time, Days, 12-hour shifts, with 3 weekends per 4 weeks. Flexibility to float to other medical units as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive medical-surgical nursing care to a diverse patient population, including those with chronic illnesses, infections, neurological issues, and mental health disorders.
  • Perform patient assessments, develop care plans, and coordinate with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Manage various medical procedures and interventions such as IV therapy, wound care, feeding tubes, chest tubes, and medication drips.
  • Utilize hospital equipment including electronic health records, IV pumps, wound vacs, telemetry monitors, and other specialized devices.
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort through timely administration of treatments and documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and communicate using electronic health records and other tools.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1.5 years of experience in a Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care facility.
  • At least 1 year of nursing experience in a facility with 600+ beds.
  • Valid BLS certification and active RN license in Indiana or a compact state.
  • Familiarity with hospital equipment such as Epic EHR, Pyxis, Hospira IV pumps, and telemetry monitoring.

Preferred Experience / Skills:

  • Experience managing patients with a broad range of medical conditions including COPD, CHF, kidney disease, GI issues, and neurological disorders.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to unit needs effectively.
  • Prior experience working in a large hospital setting with diverse patient populations.

Unit/Department Specific Information:

  • Orientation includes a Jump Start program, which features one day of general hospital orientation, approximately five days of nursing-specific training, and Epic EHR classes.
  • Staff may float to other medical units as needed to meet patient care demands.
  • Dress code is Caribbean Blue scrubs.
  • Common procedures include colonoscopies, thoracentesis, biopsies, minor surgeries, and management of complex medical conditions.

Note: COVID-19 vaccination may be required per hospital policy.
