Key Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based, culturally relevant crisis intervention services in a hospital emergency setting for individuals experiencing behavioral, emotional, substance, or mental health disorders.
  • Conduct assessments to determine the appropriate level of care, including involuntary psychiatric evaluations in accordance with Alaska Statute Title 47.
  • Coordinate care with hospital departments and external agencies, ensuring seamless referral and treatment processes.
  • Document all clinical services accurately within electronic health records, adhering to organizational policies and regulatory standards.
  • Support interdisciplinary team members, including physicians, nurses, discharge planners, and social workers, in delivering comprehensive patient care.
  • Utilize Trauma-Informed Care principles in all patient interactions and treatment planning.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Counselor (LPC), or Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) preferred; licensure must be maintained actively.
  • Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 3 months of employment.
  • Experience in a mental health or behavioral health setting for at least 2 years, including assessments and diagnoses across all age groups.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Experience with behavioral health assessment, diagnoses, and development of treatment plans.
  • Familiarity with federal and state mandatory reporting, HIPAA regulations, and accreditation standards (CARF, The Joint Commission).
  • Proficiency in risk assessment for suicide, self-harm, or grave disability, and developing safety plans.
  • Knowledge of Alaska Title 47 involuntary hold processes and documentation.
