Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and record diagnostic echocardiology tests following established policies and procedures.
  • Obtain and analyze images of cardiac anatomy to aid in disease diagnosis, ensuring high-quality exam results.
  • Explain procedures to patients, assist with proper positioning, and gather relevant medical information.
  • Utilize ultrasound equipment effectively, making adjustments as needed, and ensure images are diagnostically satisfactory.
  • Document test findings in the hospital’s electronic health records system and communicate results with physicians.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot ultrasound equipment, keeping it clean and functional, and report any malfunctions.
  • Support departmental operations through clerical tasks such as scheduling, maintaining supplies, and managing test results.
  • Participate in ongoing education, training, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and departmental efficiency.
  • Assist in clinical training for new staff and students, promoting a collaborative team environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Registration as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or equivalent certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of echocardiology techniques and ability to independently perform diagnostic tests.
  • At least one year of echocardiology experience specific to a patient population.
  • Effective communication skills with patients and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to recognize anatomical abnormalities and adjust equipment accordingly.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 20 pounds, and position patients as needed.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Experience working in a hospital or outpatient setting performing Cardiac Ultrasound.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems such as EPIC.
  • Knowledge of contrast agents use within echocardiology departments.
  • Continuing education in new imaging techniques and departmental advancements.
