Key Responsibilities

• Provides advanced respiratory care to pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients according to evidence-based policies and physician orders.

• Administers medical gases, medications, airway clearance, and mechanical ventilation therapies as prescribed.

• Responds to emergency situations, including Rapid Response calls and Blue Alerts, serving as the primary airway manager.

• Initiates and manages various modes of mechanical ventilation, including high-frequency ventilation and inverse I:E ratio.

• Assesses patient response to therapy and recommends appropriate adjustments.

• Documents interventions and patient responses accurately, complying with regulatory standards.

• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams during rounds, especially in ICU and intermediate care units.

Required Qualifications

• Successful completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program.

• Registered Respiratory Therapist credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care.

• Current Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner license.

• Ability to pass NBRC TMC and CSE exams.

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience managing advanced ventilation modes and specialty medical gases (e.g., Nitrogen, Heliox, Nitric Oxide).

• Prior clinical experience in ICU or emergency settings.

• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

• Ability to work independently under pressure and respond quickly to emergencies.
