Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialized nursing care for postoperative cardiac patients in the CVICU, including those recovering from open heart surgery.
• Monitor and manage patient conditions, including chest tubes, pacer wires, external pacemakers, central lines, and Foley catheters.
• Administer advanced cardiac drips such as Amiodarone, Primacor, Cardene, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Heparin, Cardizem, and insulin.
• Assess patient status and respond to emergencies with ACLS/BLS/NIH protocols.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure smooth patient recovery and transition to step-down units if patient condition is downgraded.
• Perform advanced dysrhythmia assessments and pass competency exams, including EKG exams.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years of RN experience in a critical care setting.
• Valid RN license.
• EPIC Electronic Medical Records experience (at least 1 year).
• Valid ACLS, BLS, and NIH certifications.
• Ability to pass an advanced dysrhythmia EKG exam.
• Comfortable managing chest tubes, pacer wires, external pacemakers, central lines, and Foley catheters.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior experience in CVICU or CTICU settings.
• Experience with post-open heart surgery recovery.
• Familiarity with special cardiac drips and critical care protocols.

Additional Notes

• Call every third weekend.
• Must work holidays and weekend rotations.
• Local rates apply within 75 miles of Louisville, KY, with a $5 reduction beyond that radius.
