Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to adult medical-surgical telemetry patients, including post-op ortho, urology, GI, COPD, CHF, diabetics, end-of-life, and dementia care.
- Apply, interpret, and respond to telemetry rhythms bedside, including ECG strip analysis.
- Perform bedside procedures such as NG tube insertion and peripheral IV placement.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure seamless patient care and communication.
- Document patient care accurately within the Epic electronic medical records system.
- Respond to emergency situations and assist respiratory and anesthesia staff as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license (must be on file at the time of submission).
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience, with 1+ year in medical-surgical telemetry.
- Prior travel experience in a 200+ bed facility is required, with at least two completed travel assignments.
- Current and valid BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.
- Telemetry certification (preferred) or recent telemetry experience demonstrating rhythm interpretation and active response.
- EPIC electronic medical record experience within the past 2 years.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Peripheral IV placement certification.
- Previous experience working in a similar-sized facility, specifically within UVM Health Network or CVMC.
- Experience with acute patient care in telemetry units, applying standard procedures confidently and efficiently.

Additional Information
- Shifts are scheduled online via the "when-to-work" platform with schedules published in advance.
- No block scheduling; staff work every other weekend, with additional shifts available.
- Reliable transportation is strongly recommended due to limited public transit; vehicles should be equipped for winter conditions (November-April).
- Onsite parking is free; housing options may be up to 15 minutes away.
- The unit operates as a tight-knit team, requiring collaboration and communication with all staff levels.
Facility Details
- Central Vermont Medical Center, Berlin, VT
- 122 total beds; Med-Surg with Telemetry unit has 51 beds.
- Level 3 Trauma Center; teaching hospital experience preferred but not required.
- Medical equipment includes Sigma IV pumps, GE EKG machines, Stryker beds, and Hill-Rom nurse call systems.
- Respiratory and anesthesia support available 24/7; ventilator management by RT.
- On-call rooms available; dedicated staff for emergencies, minimal floating.
