Special Education Teacher

Position Details:

  • Location: Brooklyn, NY (sheepshead Bay Area)
  • Pay: Starting at $46

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Valid NY teaching certification In Special Education.
  • OPEN TO non-certified teachers with a minimum of 3yrs exp in SPED - school will FastTrack their state licensing.
  • Experience working with students with a range of disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, autism, developmental delays, etc.)
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a co-teaching environment
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, particularly in urban settings.

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in lesson planning with clear objectives and assessment methods
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Familiarity with Common Core State Standards and educational technology.
  • Strong knowledge of special education laws, techniques, and best practices. Excellent communication and interpersonal
  • skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple tasks, IEPs, and progress monitoring.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping students with special needs succeed.
  • Previous experience working with students with special needs in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Ability to lift and move classroom materials and equipment as needed.
  • Ability to assist students with mobility or physical needs as required by their IEPs.

Responsibilities:

  • Co-teach alongside general educators in a classroom setting with approximately 26 students
  • Serve as the case manager for students' IEPs, including lesson modifications and small group support
  • Develop and implement accessible, content-based curricula in collaboration with team members
  • Assess student progress through formal and informal methods
  • Build students' academic and socio-emotional skills to promote overall development
  • Communicate effectively with families and support teams to coordinate student services

Work Environment:

  • Classroom and school environment, which may include both individual and group instruction.
  • May involve working with students in various settings (classroom, therapy rooms, or outdoor spaces).
  • Frequent interaction with parents, staff, and administrators.
