Occupational Therapist (OT)

Primary Purpose:
Provides educationally relevant occupational therapy services to students with disabilities in order to support their participation in school activities and to help them access their educational programs. Collaborates with teachers, support staff, families, and other service providers to integrate OT goals into students’ academic environment and daily routines.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution or beyond
  • Valid Florida Occupational Therapy licensure or eligibility for licensure.
  • Experience in pediatric or school-based therapy settings is preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules and across multiple school sites
  • ???????Ability to travel between schools (district-wide).
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations related to special education (IDEA, state rules)
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct evaluations of students referred for occupational therapy to determine functional strengths and needs in areas such as fine motor skills, sensory processing, visual-motor integration, handwriting, self?care, and activities of daily living
  • ???????Interpret evaluation results and write reports, recommendations, and IEP (Individualized Education Program) goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement individualized OT intervention plans (direct therapy, small group, or consultative)
  • Monitor student progress, collect data, and adjust intervention plans as needed
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute as a member of the student’s multidisciplinary team
  • Consult with teachers, instructional staff, and families to embed strategies and accommodations into classroom and home settings
  • Provide training or in?service to school staff about OT strategies, adaptive equipment, and environmental modifications
  • Assist with transition planning for students moving between settings (e.g., preschool to school, school to post?school environments)
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of services, progress, and compliance with district/state regulations
  • Maintain and manage therapy materials, supplies, and equipment
  • Serve as a liaison between the district, medical professionals, parents, and outside agencies
  • Stay current with best practices, continuing education, and relevant regulations.
