Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized cardiovascular intensive care to postoperative and critically ill cardiac patients, including those with heart failure, post-TAVR, ablations, Watchmen, and other high-acuity cardiac conditions.
  • Monitor and manage patients with advanced equipment such as Swan Ganz catheters, external pacemakers, ventilators, and invasive lines (PICC, CVC, arterial lines).
  • Titrate multiple complex drips including dopamine, dobutamine, vasopressors, sedatives, insulin, and heparin, following protocols and physician orders.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, interpret telemetry strips, and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including charge nurses, respiratory therapists, and patient care techs, to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Float to other care levels within the department as needed to support staffing and patient needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Illinois RN license or confirmation of application process.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent CVICU or cardiac ICU experience.
  • Current BLS certification; ACLS preferred.
  • Experience with invasive monitoring including Swan Ganz, arterial lines, and central lines.
  • Ability to interpret telemetry strips and titrate multiple IV drips accurately.
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment with limited supervision.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot ventilator equipment and manage ventilated patients.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • CCRN or PCCN certification.
  • Experience with EP patients, VADs, transplants, and temporary pacemakers.
  • Familiarity with advanced cardiovascular intervention procedures and devices.
