Registered Nurse - ICU

Location:
Fort Wayne, IN

Schedule / Job Type:
Full-time, night shifts (three 12-hour shifts per week), rotating weekends, float to various units including ICU, Progressive Care, and Med/Surg.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide critical nursing care to ventilated patients, including initiating and titrating IV drips such as vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics.
  • Assist with intubations and line placements.
  • Monitor critically ill patients with diagnoses including sepsis, respiratory failure, renal failure, myocardial infarctions, pulmonary embolism, and pneumonia.
  • Care for both ICU and progressive patients within a mixed acuity unit, adjusting care based on patient needs.
  • Utilize advanced equipment such as Phillips heart monitors, Epic EMR, Pyxis, EKG machines, and dopplers.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver patient-centered care.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow hospital policies during shift.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1.5 years of ICU experience; 2 years preferred.
  • Active IN Registered Nurse license.
  • BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) certifications.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, and operate within a 1:2 or 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio depending on patient acuity.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, team-oriented mindset, and personable approach.

Preferred Experience / Skills:

  • Experience caring for medical patients with complex needs.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, mixed acuity environment.
  • Prior experience in critical care units with ventilated patients.

Dress Code:
Caribbean blue scrubs with black, white, or Caribbean blue jackets. Short or long sleeves under scrubs must be black or white.

Training & Orientation:
Participation in onboarding through workforce development, including policy review, Epic EMR training, and a one-day unit orientation to ensure a smooth transition into the role.
