Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized perioperative nursing care in a Level I trauma center, covering all service lines except cardiovascular.
- Collaborate with surgical teams to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes across diverse cases, including trauma, general surgery, neurology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, urology, and transplant procedures.
- Administer blood products, manage sterile procedures, and ensure infection control compliance.
- Assist with patient assessment, preparation, and post-operative care during various surgical procedures.
- Function within scope, adhering to hospital protocols and safety standards, including emergency response and radiation safety.
- Support the surgical team during complex cases such as laparoscopic, microvascular, and trauma surgeries.
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois Registered Nurse license or in application process.
- Minimum 3 years' recent experience in an operating room setting.
- General OR and trauma experience required.
- BLS certification required; CNOR preferred.
- Experience with laparoscopic-assisted cases, Level I trauma, and specialized surgical procedures.
- Cerner electronic health record experience preferred.
- Ability to work varied evening shifts, including one weekend per month, and on-call duties (approximately one week per month).
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with Bariatric, neurology, orthopedic, plastic, transplant, and urology cases.
- Knowledge of complex procedures such as cervical fusion, craniotomy, organ donation, and trauma-related surgeries.
- Familiarity with surgical equipment including electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources, and Hana tables.
- Strong understanding of infection control, radiation safety, and universal protocol procedures.
