Key Responsibilities

• Provide perioperative nursing care in a Level I trauma center, covering various service lines including general surgery, trauma, orthopedics, neurology, plastics, and urology.
• Assist during complex surgical procedures such as laparoscopic, open, and microvascular cases, ensuring patient safety and adherence to protocols.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver excellent patient outcomes and support emergency and trauma cases.
• Manage preoperative and postoperative patient care, including equipment setup, sterile procedures, and specimen handling.
• Follow hospital policies for infection control, radiation safety, and universal protocols, including blood product administration and urinary catheterization.
• Be prepared to respond to emergency situations, including code responses and fire safety procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Valid and active Illinois nursing license.
• Minimum of 3 years of operating room nursing experience.
• Experience with trauma and general surgery procedures, including laparoscopic and open surgeries for various specialties.
• BLS certification required; CNOR preferred.
• Level I trauma experience required.
• Certified in emergency management procedures such as code response, fire safety, and handling latex allergies.
• Ability to work within scope, with flexibility to float rarely within skill set if necessary.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Cerner electronic medical record experience.
• Prior experience with bariatric, neurology, orthopedics, plastics, transplant, and Urology procedures.
• Experience caring for trauma patients with complex injuries.
• Familiarity with surgical equipment including electrosurgical units, fiber optic sources, and Hana tables.
