Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide perioperative nursing care in a busy Level I trauma center operating room.
  • Assist with all service lines except cardiovascular, including trauma cases, general surgery, orthopedics, plastics, urology, and organ donation.
  • Prepare and monitor surgical instruments and supplies; ensure safety protocols are followed.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including trauma, codes, and other urgent scenarios.
  • Document patient information accurately using Cerner electronic health records.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to deliver high-quality patient care within scope of practice.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years' OR experience in a hospital setting.
  • Active IL nursing license or in the application process.
  • General OR and trauma experience required, Level I trauma experience preferred.
  • BLS certification required; CNOR certification preferred.
  • Experience with laparoscopic-assisted bariatric and general surgery cases, including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, and Whipple procedures.
  • Skilled in neuro, orthopedic, plastic, transplant, and urology procedures, including craniotomy, lumbar fusion, arthroscopy, Cystoscopy, nephrectomy, prostatectomy, and amputations.
  • Experience in trauma care involving multiple injuries, gunshot/stab wounds, and MVAs.
  • Competency in emergency response, infection control, blood product administration, and universal protocols.
  • Familiarity with electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources, and Hana tables.

Preferred Experience / Skills:

  • Cerner electronic health record system experience.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety and specimen handling.
  • Experience managing latex allergy and malignant hyperthermia scenarios.

Additional Details:

  • Must live at least 50 miles from the facility.
  • Will work within all service lines except cardiovascular.
  • Will work 4x10-hour days.
  • On-call requirement: approximately once per week, with flexible arrangements.
  • The hospital has 562 beds and is a Magnet-designated facility.
  • Parking is provided at no cost; parking permit required during orientation.
  • Guaranteed hours, with allowances for some scheduled cancellations in accordance with client policies.
