Special Education Teacher

Schedule / Job Type

• Full-time, Direct Hire (highly preferred; contract candidates may also be considered)

Key Responsibilities

• Teach students across the special education continuum through a combination of co-taught, small group, and one-on-one instruction based on student needs
• Develop and implement support plans, including managing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and collaborating with external service agencies
• Facilitate student advocacy, case management, and progress monitoring for students with exceptionalities
• Support teachers with differentiation strategies and promote inclusive practices within the classroom
• Engage parents and guardians in educational advocacy and encourage active participation in their child's learning
• Participate in professional development activities and contribute to the school’s collaborative team environment

Required Qualifications

• Valid NC Exceptional Children certification
• Commitment to supporting the school’s mission and vision
• Ability to teach beyond basal curriculum, integrating Common Core and Core Knowledge curricula
• Strong organizational, critical thinking, and data-driven instructional skills
• Effective communication skills for working with students, parents, colleagues, and community partners
• Demonstrated experience working with students with exceptionalities; no severe behavioral disorders expected

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior experience with co-taught, small group, and one-on-one instruction
• Knowledge of assistive and adaptive technologies in special education
• Experience in case management and collaboration with external agencies
• Participation in professional learning communities and ongoing professional growth initiatives

Additional Notes
This is a contract or direct hire opportunity located approximately 30 miles east of Raleigh, NC, with a salary ranging from $40,000 to $60,000 based on experience and education. The position involves physical activity, including walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs, and requires effective communication and sensory skills.
