Key Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based, culturally relevant crisis intervention services in a hospital emergency room and other departments for individuals experiencing behavioral, emotional, substance use, or mental health disorders.
  • Conduct assessments to determine the most appropriate level of care, including involuntary psychiatric evaluations as per Alaska Statute Title 47.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care, including discharge planning and referrals to external agencies and treatment providers.
  • Document all services accurately and timely within electronic health records, maintaining compliance with policies, regulations, and clinical standards.
  • Utilize trauma-informed care principles in interactions with patients, families, and community members.
  • Manage short-term mental health and substance use treatment, including motivational interviewing, education, and skill development.
  • Ensure ongoing licensure requirements are met and maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Counselor (LPC), or Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) preferred.
  • Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience in a mental health, substance use treatment, or related behavioral health setting.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for all age groups.
  • Familiarity with federal and state mandatory reporting, legal and ethical practices, and documentation regulations.
