Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care; implement, evaluate, and revise nursing interventions based on patient needs and clinical circumstances.
- Function as a circulator nurse by coordinating perioperative workflow outside the sterile field, preparing patients, verifying documentation, ensuring equipment readiness, completing surgical safety checklists, and facilitating communication among the surgical team.
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately per provider orders and policy; recognize and respond to changes in patient condition with appropriate interventions or escalation of care.
- Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care, facilitate referrals, and support continuity of services; document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the electronic health record.
- Participate in on-call coverage to support urgent and emergent surgical cases.
- Participate in quality and performance improvement activities; maintain required competencies and certifications; provide guidance, delegation, and mentoring to ancillary staff and peers.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Alaska.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association, required at time of hire.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association, required at time of hire for experienced nurses; must be obtained within six (6) months of hire for new graduates or nurses new to the specialty.
- Clinical competency validation required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
- High-risk competency validation required within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience in an operating room or perioperative setting, including circulator nurse responsibilities.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical systems in a fast-paced surgical environment.
- Experience delivering culturally responsive, patient-centered care.
