Contract | Nights (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | 4x12-hour shifts | 36 or 48 hours per week | 13–20 week contract
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry, identify and manage dysrhythmias, and utilize remote telemetry monitoring
- Manage a diverse patient population including diagnoses such as diabetes, CHF, COPD, sepsis, GI bleed, renal failure, pneumonia, and various surgical recovery cases
- Perform and maintain vascular access including peripheral IVs, central line blood draws, PICC line management, and phlebotomy; administer blood products and manage IV medications including heparin, insulin, and PCA
- Provide respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP management, high flow nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
- Float to other units within or near the facility as needed, including a campus approximately 30 minutes away; participate in storm, hurricane, and disaster response teams as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg and/or Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience
- Active NC RN license or valid Compact RN license
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications
- Proficiency in telemetry interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with wound care/wound vac, chest tubes, ostomy management, feeding tube care, and isolation precautions/PPE
- Must be available to work every other weekend and a minimum of 2 of 3 major holidays; no block schedules (weekend blocks excepted)
Preferred Experience / Skills
- ACLS certification; experience with on-unit telemetry monitoring, post-angiogram, post-cardiac surgery, post-MI care, and IV insulin protocols
- Experience with tracheostomy care, continuous bladder irrigation, port access/management, surgical drains, ABG interpretation, and pre/post thoracic surgery care
- Background in CVA management, substance withdrawal, and bariatric surgery care
- Previous charge nurse experience, community hospital background, and proficiency with electronic documentation and Pyxis medication dispensing systems
