As we comply with state and federal regulations of social distancing many of us are being sent home unemployed with concerns on how to navigate these dark waters.
These are trying times, of that we are certain and it is clear that being proactive will be crucial to surviving this pandemic.
We have compiled a few tips to help you get through this difficult time if you find yourself unemployed.
1. Access unemployment benefits and patiently await the promised relief benefits
If you have been laid off and have not done so already please access the available unemployment benefits.
Here are some of the mentioned requirements to qualify:
- You are eligible if loss of employment is due to COVID-19 for one of these reasons. You are non essential personnel and are required to stay home to self-isolate, care for family members or are sick with the virus.
- You were employed by the employer that had to let you go due to the COVID crisis in six of the last eighteen months and have earned at least $2,500 in the same time period.
2. Get your learning on
Keep your skills sharp! So many organizations and companies are offering free online training courses. Take this time to grow your resume and improve your existing skills.
3. Consider picking up per diem or temporary employment
Join the crew of essential personnel!
If you are a nurse and are temporarily out of work consider per- diem work.
No medical credentials? No problem, join the grocery and bulk warehouse stores for a temporary gig that is sure to provide you financial relief.
We hope these tips are of some help and reassurance.
We see the light at the end of the tunnel, you are there and it is bright.
