Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric nursing care in a Short Term Acute Care facility, including medication administration, IV therapy, and minor wound care.
  • Monitor and manage patients with mental health conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, schizoaffective disorder, dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, and behaviors related to substance use and cognitive impairment.
  • Float within the behavioral health service line to various adult and older adult units, adapting to patient needs and co-morbid medical conditions.
  • Utilize Epic electronic medical record system for charting and documentation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure patient safety and effective treatment plans.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, including RTO restrictions and travel guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license (Missouri or compact license; must be in hand at time of submission for Missouri).
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent psychiatric or medical-surgical nursing experience.
  • BLS and CPI certifications required.
  • Epic EMR system experience.
  • Ability to work night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) and accommodate a 12-hour block schedule.
  • Must be able to sign for 36 or 48 hours per week and be available for every other weekend shifts.
  • Successful background check with no disqualifying hits, and ability to pass drug screening.
  • Travel compliance documentation including SSN, DOB, and references.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Experience working with geriatric, inpatient, locked-unit, and substance use populations.
  • Skilled in managing acute mental health symptoms, aggressive behaviors, and medical co-morbidities such as insulin management, colostomy care, CPAP use, and basic wound care.
  • Previous exposure to ECT pre-op preparation is a plus.
